Girls Inc. Limestone celebrates 50+ years of empowering girls and gender-expansive youth
Girls Inc. Limestone is making waves as a leader in life-skills education and mentoring programs for girls, women, and gender-expansive people across Southeast Ontario. With a pro-girl and pro-woman approach, the organization has spent over five decades advocating for equity and empowering its participants through innovative programs and research-driven solutions. Employment Program Manager Michelle Fields explains what Girls Inc is all about.
Founded in 1973 as Big Sisters of Kingston, Girls Inc. Limestone now serves more than 1,300 individuals annually in Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, Hastings, and Prince Edward County. Its programs are grounded in field-tested research and aim to address the root causes of gender inequality. They cover a wide range of activities, all of which are free as Michelle explains.
The voices of participants remain central to its mission, shaping advocacy efforts at local, provincial, and national levels. This level of vital services to such a large group is always in need of public support. Michelle notes there is a variety of ways to get involved.
