Kingston hockey star takes the lead in mental health awareness
The Canadian Mental Health Association, the Kingston Frontenacs and the OHL have named Fronts Forward Jacob Battaglia as the first official spokesperson for Talk Today, a sports mental health and suicide prevention program.
Bataglia is excited about the announcement.
February is Talk Today month, where OHL teams work with CMHA branches to promote mental health awareness.
Battaglia, a star forward, has taken part in the program throughout his career and is now leading the conversation.
Bataglia says Talk Today is launching the “Pass the Puck,” Challenge, where teams message each other online to share positive mental health messages.
Battaglia will also highlight CMHA Ontario’s Someone’s Someone campaign and take over CMHA Ontario’s social media.
The Frontenacs’ Director of Marketing and Digital Media, Spencer Loeb praised Battaglia’s dedication, while OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford said his advocacy is inspiring.
Since 2014, nearly 13,000 athletes, coaches and parents have received mental health training through Talk Today.
