Health Unit reacts to new alcohol guidelines
Getting the word out for health's sake: Health unit comments on alcohol consumption guidelines
The South East Health Unit is sharing updated guidance on alcohol and its risks.
Dr. Linna Li, Deputy Medical Officer of Health, and Mandy Fleming, Health Promoter, emphasized that no amount of alcohol is truly safe for your health.
Canada’s new guidelines recommend drinking no more than two standard drinks weekly to minimize risks.
Flemming says at three to six drinks per week, the risk of cancer, including breast and colon, increases.
Dr. Li debunked the myth that small amounts of alcohol benefit health, saying evidence doesn’t support this idea, adding that even red wine has no proven health benefits.
Flemming says reducing driking has physical benefits, including better sleep and lower injury risks.
