What's good in Kingston

Construction crews deserves a safe workplace

The OPP says for the most part, drivers know what to do when they encounter something out of the ordinary on major highways, like Kingston's stretch of the 401.

But OPP Constable Michael Fathi says its always a good idea to talk about specific areas of concern, to keep them top of mind.

With some close calls in recent weeks and a case where a worker was actually hit on the highway while laying out a detour, Fathi says its a good time to review what to do when workers are present.

The seasoned Constable says helping the workers through the way you drive is very easy and you're certainly forwarned by those "construction zone ahead" signs.

Once you're in that construction zone, it's important to understand just how important slowing down is for the safety of the workers.

So slow down, move over when possible and stay focused on the road when in a construction zone. Constable Fathi says that goes for any area having work done.

At the end of the day he says every worker deserves to go home at the end of the work day.
