What's good in Kingston

It's Radon awareness month

This is Radon Action Month, and KFL&A Public Health is encouraging residents to test their homes for radon.

Erin VanZuylen, public health promoter at KFL&A Public Health, told us Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil.

Public Health did a study back in 2018 that discovered that 21% of homes that were tested were above Health Canada's guideline and 52% of homes surpassed the World Health Organization’s threshold.

How does it get into your home? VanZuylen explains,

Public Health says the best time to test your home for radon is during the winter months when windows and doors remain closed. Radon testing is simple and inexpensive.
