Local athlete set to shine on national stage
Dozens of athletes from our region are headed to the 46th annual Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Calgary starting on August 9th.
Kingston's Makayla Conley is one of them. She tells WOW FM how she got there.
Overall, more than 800 young athletes will be competing.
Makayla says they're hard at work to raise funds to lower the cost of the experience.
That drive is being coordinated out of the Brockville Legion, but you can drop off a cash donation if you'd like at your local legion branch and they'll make sure the athletes get it.
As for inspiration Makayla turns to her coach Laura Silvers, who she credits for her success.
Makayla Conley is currently ranked 19th in Canada and will compete in seven events at the meet.
