A neighbouring Poet Laureate achieves high honour
Gananoque Poet Laureate Gretchen Huntley was speechless after receiving a letter from MP Michael Barrett before Christmas.
It said she would receive a King Charles III Coronation Medal for her achievements and service to the town.
She spoke about her overall emotions when she received the package containing the letter.
Huntley says writing is her passion.
She also noted that she had many to thank for the recognition.
Along with her notable poetry works, Huntley also has made contributions to the Gananoque Food Bank and Humane Society.
She added that she was no stranger to Parliament Hill as she's visited many times to see the changing of the guards.
Huntley was recognized at a ceremony on the 18th of January.
