Kingston Police set to take part in charity hockey game for a good cause

A charity hockey game between Kingston police officers and Napanee High School Students is set to hit the ice in support of the Morningstar Mission and Lennox and Addington Ontario SPCA.

The event, organized by Napanee District Secondary School (NDSS) students and Kingston Police detective sergeant Shawn Birney, aims to bring the community together while raising funds for local charities. Kingston Deputy Police Chief Scott Gee will be in attendance for the ceremonial puck drop.

Carter Slaven, student in the Rec Leadership Class at NDSS, says they decided to support the Morningstar Mission because they give back to their school.

The game will feature a mix of the top student athletes from both the male and female high school teams vs. police officers from Kingston Police, L&A OPP and Napanee’s mayor, a former OPP officer.

Detective Birney says the main goal is to break down barriers between students and the police,

High school students can pay $10 to skip afternoon classes and attend. Madden Peterson let us know how the rest of the community can get involved.

Slaven went on to say the person to “Chuck a Duck” closest to the center of the ice will win some Hawk’s gear.

The game is scheduled for February 7th at 12:30pm at the Best and Bash Arena in Napanee.

Updates ahead of the game can be found on NDSS Athletics’ Instagram or through Kingston Police.
