What's Good: New chair lift boosts accessibility at Kingston Literacy & Skills

Kingston Literacy & Skills (KL&S) has enhanced accessibility at its Bath Road location, thanks to a Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).

KL&S provides essential programming spaces for local social services agencies that support vulnerable and marginalized individuals.

With the OTF funding, KL&S installed a commercial-grade chair lift designed by The Springer Group of Companies and Upper Canada Elevator. This installation makes the upper floor of their Financial Services Centre West building at 16 Bath Road accessible.

MPP for Kingston and the Islands, Ted Hsu, praised the initiative, highlighting KL&S's commitment to making literacy and skills training accessible to all. The new lift, installed in June, was celebrated with an OTF Grant Recognition Reception on July 5.

This event showcased the art exhibition “IN BETWiN” by newcomer artist Sergio Jaua.

KL&S serves over 500 newcomers and Ontario adult learners annually, functioning as a hub for social services with partners such as ACFOMI, KEYS, ISKA, KFLA Public Health, and others.
