Partners in Mission Food Bank is moving to a larger facility, which means they'll be able to better serve Kingston and Loyalist.
For many the timing couldn't be better as the price of food is showing no signs of dropping any time soon.
Partners in Mission made the announcement to mark their 40th anniversary. The organization's first food collection took place on June 17, 1984. The food was counted and sorted at St. Joseph Regional House in Amherstview, then sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society for their emergency food distribution program.
Executive Director Dan Irwin told us they're really appreciative of all of the support over the last 40 years, which lets them help neighbours in need.
So far this year, they've helped over 63-hundred people. Those numbers, like all area food banks show an increase that is not showing any signs of slowing.
The new location, just 400-meters down the street from their current location, will feature a shopping model that allows clients to choose their food.
But their new home needs a little work done before they can move in. They're looking to raise about $1 million for the renovations.
