UPDATED - Violent incident on Montreal St. leaves two people dead, one badly injured

Three people have been taken to hospital after a man attacked them near Montreal St.'s Belle Park Encampment and the Integrated Care Hub.

Mayor Paterson said in a statement that it took place at the city's safe injection site.

Kingston Police confirmed two people succumbed to their injuries. The victims' injuries were consistent with those caused by an edged weapon and blunt instrument. One person remains in life-threatening condition. 

The suspect was arrested without further incident just before 5:00 pm.

Police responded to the call at about 10:30 Thursday morning. The victims were rushed to Kingston General for treatment. 

The alleged attacker was cornered in a vacant lot on the west side of Montreal St.

Montreal St. remains closed between Hickson and Railway as the operation continues. 

All are asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
