$7.2M boost for new affordable housing units for Kingston

Three projects get big help

The federal government is providing money to help deal with one of Kingston's biggest issues: affordable housing units.

The feds have provided $7.2 million to support 30 new housing units across the city through the third round of the Rapid Housing Initiative.

The funding will help three key projects move forward. Habitat for Humanity will receive $4.6 million for an eight-unit development on MacCauley Street. Tipi Moza will get more than $1.5 million for a four-unit project on Yonge Street, and Addiction and Mental Health Services will receive $480,000 for an 18-bed transitional housing program on Concession Street.

Kingston and the Islands MP Mark Gerretsen says the projects reflect strong partnerships that improve quality of life for those in need.

Mayor Bryan Paterson echoed that sentiment, adding that the new developments will offer more than just shelter—they will provide stability and a sense of community.

The city is working closely with local organizations to deliver housing solutions that will make a lasting difference.
