Agreement reached to avoid strike at Ontario colleges

No disruption at St. Lawrence College

Kingston's college students can breathe a sigh of relief.

An agreement has been reached between Ontario's public colleges and the Union representing faculty, preventing a potential strike.

The College Employer Council and OPSEU agreed to enter binding arbitration after months of negotiations.

This ensures no disruptions at St. Lawrence College in Kingston or other nearby colleges.

The union, representing over 15,000 faculty members, had warned of labor action after issuing a five-day strike notice last week.

While significant benefit gains were made, some issues remain unresolved and will now be handled by an arbitrator.

The agreement came after mediation in Toronto earlier this week, allowing students and faculty to continue without interruption.
