Kingston firefighters faced a major challenge Sunday afternoon as they battled a fire at the Kimco recycling yard on John Counter Boulevard.
Heavy black smoke filled the sky, drawing concern and attention from local residents. The fire department received the call around 4:20 p.m. and worked tirelessly for more than four hours to bring the blaze under control.
During this time, police blocked off Lappans Lane to allow firefighters to access the property safely.
The source of the fire remains unknown, and there are no estimates on the damage yet. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and authorities are working to determine what sparked the blaze.
Residents are advised to avoid the area as clean-up and investigation efforts continue.
