Pressure mounts for government action
The Canada Post strike has reached 25 days, affecting more than 55,000 workers across the country. The strike, which began on November 14, has stalled federal mediation for nearly two weeks due to significant differences between the two sides.
Canada Post announced Sunday it is waiting for a formal response from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) to a proposal it submitted Friday. CUPW stated it is reviewing the offer but raised concerns about when mediation will resume. The union has reaffirmed its commitment to returning to negotiations.
Calls for government intervention are growing, particularly from the business sector. However, the federal government has so far declined to act, despite using binding arbitration to resolve other major labour disputes, such as those at Canadian ports.
With no resolution in sight, the strike continues to disrupt mail and parcel services across Canada. Both sides remain far apart on key issues.
