Chase, crash, charges

Local man flees but ends up in a cage

A high-speed chase on Highway 401 in Kingston ended in a crash and multiple charges for a local driver.

On November 6, 2024, just after 11:30 a.m., a Frontenac OPP officer attempted to pull over a silver BMW for a traffic violation. The driver, 19-year-old Shayden Sherbonneau-Knickle of Kingston, sped away, prompting the officer to halt pursuit for public safety.

Sherbonneau-Knickle exited the highway at the Sir John A. MacDonald ramp, where he lost control. The vehicle rolled several times, landing in a ditch. After a member of the public reported the crash, officers arrived and arrested him. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Sherbonneau-Knickle faces several charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, fleeing from a peace officer, and driving while under suspension. The off-ramp was closed for two hours for investigation. Sherbonneau-Knickle was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
