Fence debate likely to continue
After over two hours of debate, Kingston council voted 10-3 in favour of keeping the temporary fencing in place at Cricket Field's newest baseball diamond while staff explore further options with local heritage groups and the Kingston Heritage Properties Committee around its removal.
Tourism Kingston's Emma Lambert made the case to keep the fence in place.
The city recently drew in over $2.3 million of economic impact by hosting the 2024 Little League Canadian Championships and are shortlisted for next year's u-13 national championships.
Hosting such large events puts money in a lot of pockets, Lambert added.
Mayor Bryan Paterson said council has the right to change its mind, after originally agreeing to remove the fencing following the tournament as it impacts the open and public space between the Frontenac County Courthouse and City Park.
Council, staff, and the Kingston Baseball Association weren't keen on the idea to remove and reinstall the fence when necessary as they said it would damage the diamond.
