Access to emergency care is among top worries
The new Wolfe Islander IV ferry, in service for nearly two weeks, is facing backlash from island residents due to its 80-minute round trip schedule. Previously, the Wolfe Islander III operated on a 60-minute schedule, and the extended travel time is causing significant concerns.
Residents worry that the new schedule will negatively impact commuting times and emergency response times. With fewer trips each day, about 300 fewer vehicles will be transported, potentially affecting the island's social and economic dynamics.
There are also concerns that paramedics may experience delays in reaching the island during emergencies, which could impact public safety. The community is calling for a review of the schedule to address these issues and ensure efficient transportation and emergency response services.
The new schedule's potential impacts on daily life and emergency services remain a pressing concern for the Wolfe Island community.
