Held in custody for time-being
The two Kingston men facing charges connected to the firebombing of the Nexus gaming store on Bagot Street made their first court appearances late last week.
The Kingstonist reports that 30-year-old Kenneth Murphy appeared in court, where his duty counsel waived arraignment and requested a publication ban on the bail proceedings. He was charged with arson, possession of incendiary material, disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, and mischief under $5,000.
Murphy was ordered not to contact his co-accused, 37-year-old Joel Echlin, who appeared in court by video from Quinte Detention Centre on Mar. 7. Echlin was also charged with the same offences.
Both men were arrested after an incendiary device was thrown into the Nexus store on Feb. 28, 2025. Kingston Police had released security footage and suspect photos, leading to their identification by Mar. 4.
The two men are scheduled for a bail hearing on Mar. 18th.
