Curbing Downtown Kingston bike thefts with modern racks

18 new hi-tech racks will keep your ride safe

Eighteen new Urban Bike Racks have been permanently installed throughout downtown Kingston. Strategically placed at key locations, these racks offer cyclists a free and secure parking solution. To use the racks, cyclists must download the Bikeep app, available on iOS and Android.

Recognized globally for its security features, Bikeep is used in over 16 countries. The new racks include tampering sensors, steel bar locks, and real-time notifications, ensuring peace of mind for users. Manual unlocking is available in emergencies, courtesy of Downtown Kingston BIA staff.

The bike racks were first tested during a 2022 pilot program on Princess Street and are now a permanent fixture at locations like Ontario Street, Brock Street, and Barrie Street.

This initiative supports Kingston’s active transportation goals, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions while promoting a healthier, greener lifestyle for residents and visitors alike.
