Kingston Police nab suspected drug dealer
Charges have been laid in connection with a drug investigation.
Kingston Police officers on a proactive patrol in the north end witnessed what appeared to be a drug transaction in the rear parking lot of an apartment building on Compton Street, north of Weller Avenue.
As officers approached, the two individuals involved in the suspected exchange fled in opposite directions. One suspect attempted to escape on a bicycle, leading officers on a chase through a hole in a fence to another apartment building's rear parking lot on Conacher Drive.
The suspect abandoned the bicycle and attempted to evade capture on foot, running back through a smaller hole in the same fence. However, police quickly caught up with the individual. After a brief struggle, the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 11:25 a.m.
A search revealed the suspect was in possession of a baggie containing a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine. The individual, a 21-year-old local resident, was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing the following day.
The suspect faces charges of unlawful possession of a Schedule 1 substance, resisting a peace officer, and three counts of breach of probation.
