Drivers in Kingston hit with over 1,000 speeding tickets as cameras catch offenders

Pilot project yields results

Kingston’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) pilot project is showing results after launching in September. Two cameras, located in community safety zones on Norman Rogers Drive and Lancaster Drive, have issued over 1,000 speeding tickets in just two months.

The project targets zones near schools with high pedestrian traffic, where speed limits are 40 km/h and reduced to 30 km/h near schools. In September, Norman Rogers Drive saw 281 charges, dropping to 230 in October. Lancaster Drive recorded 307 charges in September, falling to 189 in October.

Since installation, Norman Rogers Drive has seen a 15% reduction in average speed and a 41.6% increase in speed limit compliance. Lancaster Drive recorded a 12% speed reduction and a 28.1% compliance boost.

The ASE project will rotate cameras every three months until 2026 to improve road safety. Kingston officials expect compliance to continue improving as drivers adjust.
