Eyes federal Conservative nod in Kingston and the Islands
Former Conservative MP Leona Alleslev is looking to make a political comeback. Alleslev, who served six years in the House of Commons, is seeking the Conservative nomination in Kingston and the Islands for the next federal election.
A former air force officer, Alleslev previously represented Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill but now hopes to return to her hometown of Kingston, where she grew up in a military family.
Alleslev was first elected as a Liberal in 2015 but crossed the floor to the Conservatives in 2018, criticizing the Liberal government’s economic and foreign policies. She was re-elected as a Conservative in 2019 but lost her seat in 2021.
In the nomination race, Alleslev will face Jarrod Stearns, chair of the Kingston Police Services Board. There is also speculation that Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson may enter the contest.
Alleslev says she has “unfinished business” in Ottawa.
