Freezing rain caused dozens of collisions

OPP urges safer driving

Freezing rain this week caused dozens of collisions, particularly along Highway 401 in the east, where nearly 100 accidents occurred. Thankfully, most were minor, with no serious injuries reported, according to officials with OPP East Region.

The OPP is urging drivers to adjust their habits to prevent accidents. While winter or snow tires help, they cannot prevent sliding on icy roads. Police remind drivers to slow down, leave plenty of space between vehicles, and make sure their headlights are on.

Drivers should also clear snow and ice completely from their vehicles before heading out. With mixed weather this week, the OPP advises all motorists to be prepared for changing road conditions.

In Kingston, police reported only two minor collisions on city roads. As winter weather continues, local authorities are stressing the importance of safe driving habits to avoid accidents.
