Kingston defenceman helps lead Team Jamaica to Challenger Series title
Maleek McGowan has earned the title of Challenger Series Champion.
Representing Team Jamaica, the Frontenacs defenceman played a pivotal role in securing victory in the 2024 Challenger Series, a thrilling tournament that saw teams from Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Lebanon competing in a series of matchups.
The final showdown took place at Toronto's College Ice Arena, where Team Jamaica faced off against Lebanon. Jamaica pulled away and won a wild affair 12-8.
McGowan, who completed his second season with the Kingston Frontenacs during the 2023-24 season, showcased his talents on the international stage. A Toronto-native, he was drafted in the 10th round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. Over 90 games with the Black and Gold, McGowan has scored 3 goals and contributed 17 assists, amassing a total of 20 points. He is renowned for his imposing presence on the ice and has been lauded as one of the top players in the Ontario Hockey League, even earning the title of "Best Body Checker."
