Gord Edgar Downie Pier closed nightly for safety reasons

Unsupervised parties could pose a risk

As part of the University District Safety Initiative, Gord Edgar Downie Pier and Breakwater Park beach will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., starting tonight (Aug 30) through Sept. 9.

The closures aim to protect community members by preventing large unsanctioned gatherings, which pose significant safety risks, especially at night. City Bylaw Enforcement and Kingston Police will patrol the area, supported by active video surveillance, to ensure compliance.

The initiative highlights the need for safe and responsible behavior from all residents. By enforcing these temporary measures, the City hopes to proactively address potential disruptions, ensuring a secure environment for everyone in the University District.

These steps reflect the community's commitment to maintaining safety during a time when student gatherings often increase. Residents are encouraged to follow the rules and support these efforts to keep the area safe for all.
