Facility will bring many disciplines together

Modern Niagara celebrated the grand opening of its new facility at 945 Princess Street in Kingston, Ontario, on October 4, 2024. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials, industry partners, and community members.

The purpose-built, 230,000-square-foot building underwent nearly $70 million in renovations, making it a sustainable innovation hub for various sectors. Key features include wet labs, shared analytical equipment, and coworking spaces designed to foster collaboration and innovation.

Mayor Bryan Paterson emphasized the facility's role in promoting sustainability and economic growth in Kingston. The energy-efficient upgrades are expected to reduce carbon emissions by over 80%, or about 2,000 tonnes annually, with a long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon status.

The Canada Infrastructure Bank supported the project with $25 million in funding through its Building Retrofits Initiative. Modern Niagara aims to lead the way in innovative building solutions while minimizing environmental impact.

The group is also looking for local businesses to host Coffee & Connections or Chamber On Tap.
