City puts out safety tips and precautions for storm
The City of Kingston is actively monitoring the forecasted heavy rains expected to hit the region from Wednesday through early Friday.
To ensure public safety, the city and its partners will provide regular updates.
Stay Informed
Residents are urged to keep an eye on alerts and forecasts from Environment Canada. Severe weather reports can be sent via email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or shared on Twitter using the hashtag #ONStorm.
Exercise Caution Around Water Bodies
Cataraqui Conservation has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety, anticipating heavy rainfall on July 10 and 11. They advise caution around dams, fast-flowing watercourses, and stormwater ponds. Sign up for flood alerts and other notifications from Cataraqui Conservation.
Protect Your Property
Ensure that gutters and drains are clear to prevent blockages. Move valuables and important documents to higher ground if flooding is a concern. For guidance on dealing with basement flooding, visit Utilities Kingston’s Flood Facts page.
Travel Safely
Avoid driving during heavy rain. If you must travel, proceed with caution as visibility will be reduced. Use your preferred transit app to check for any changes to Kingston Transit routes or schedules.
Be Prepared
While widespread flooding is not expected, having an emergency kit ready is recommended. Ensure it contains supplies to sustain you, your family, and pets for at least 72 hours in case of an emergency.
