Helicopter rescue saves the day

An individual hiking in Frontenac Provincial Park sustained a serious leg injury, requiring a helicopter rescue on December 8th.

The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m., prompting a call to Kingston Fire dispatch for assistance. The injured hiker, located approximately seven kilometers into the Slide Lake loop, was found with the help of South Frontenac Fire Rescue using the 'What 3 Words' phone app to pinpoint the location.

Due to the severity of the injury and the distance from the trailhead, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center and Frontenac OPP coordinated efforts to arrange for a Search and Rescue helicopter from 8 Wing Base - Trenton.

The helicopter arrived and airlifted the injured hiker out of the park, transporting them to a Kingston hospital for treatment. The rescue highlights the importance of technology in remote areas and the quick response of emergency teams to ensure hiker safety in difficult conditions.
