Homeless shelters in Kingston offer vital help

Cold snap has seen wind chills of -25 overnight

Emergency shelters in Kingston are stepping up to support people experiencing homelessness during a severe cold snap. With wind chill values plunging to minus 25 overnight, shelters like the Adelaide St. Shelter are providing warmth, meals, and a safe place to sleep.

Community organizations such as Lionhearts Inc., Home Base Housing, and the Integrated Care Hub are partnering with the City of Kingston to ensure no one is left out in the cold.

Jeff Babcock of Lionhearts Kingston says shelters and wrap-around services help restore hope and dignity for those in need.

Home Base Housing’s Street Outreach team is also monitoring vulnerable individuals.

Residents can call 613-542-6672 ext. 130 or email streetoutreach@kingstonhomebase.ca to report someone needing assistance.

For anyone in crisis, the Addictions and Mental Health - KFLA Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 613-544-4229.

You can always call on someone's behalf too if they don't have access to a phone or the internet.

In an emergency, always call 911.
