Fishing huts need to be removed by Saturday!

UPDATE: The boat was delayed by a storm but is now expected to arrive early Saturday morning. 

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Canadian Coast Guard are warning ice fishing hut owners near Bath and Amherst Island to remove their huts before Saturday, March 8, 2025. The MV Sunnanvik vessel will approach the Lafarge cement facility at 6:00 a.m., causing ice in the area to become dangerously unstable.

The ice’s stability will be affected across a wide area, and it is strongly recommended that no one be on the ice Saturday morning. Those with huts in the area are urged to take necessary precautions and remove their equipment to avoid potential danger.
