The call comes amid rising cases
KFL&A Public Health is urging local parents and guardians to update their pertussis (whooping cough) vaccinations due to a recent spike in cases.
Pertussis is a highly contagious infection that spreads through droplets from coughing and sneezing. It poses the greatest risk to infants under one year old, who may need hospitalization if they contract the disease.
Symptoms typically start with a mild fever, runny nose, and cough, leading to severe coughing fits over several weeks.
To protect against pertussis, KFL&A Public Health recommends vaccinations for infants, children, teenagers, and adults. The vaccine is free and available through health-care providers.
