Cataraqui Conservation says use caution around water
The Cataraqui Conservation Authority has issued a Water Safety Statement due to the heavy rainfall expected from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby. Forecasts predict 40-100 mm of rain, with the heaviest downpour tomorrow, August 9, 2024.
Environment Canada has also issued Rainfall Warnings, anticipating 50-75 mm of rain, with localized higher amounts possible.
Residents are urged to exercise caution around water bodies, including dams, fast-flowing watercourses, and stormwater ponds.
The risks include rapidly rising streams and potential localized flooding in low-lying areas. While widespread flooding is unlikely, Cataraqui Conservation advises everyone to avoid the water's edge and follow all posted warning signs.
