Kingston businesses brace for U.S. tariffs as deadline looms

We Are Kingston! Tariff Support Campaign launched

Two-thirds of businesses in Ontario are preparing for a negative impact from potential U.S. tariffs, according to a survey by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.

The survey also found that even the threat of tariffs has already hurt business confidence across Ontario.

Karen Cross, CEO with the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce is working with provincial and national partners to support local businesses through these economic challenges.

Cross says, as part of their efforts, they have launched the We Are Kingston! Tariff Support Campaign to promote local businesses and encourage shopping within the community.

Cross says the Chamber at all levels, continues to advocate for policies that protect local businesses and strengthen Kingston’s economy.

With the 30-day negotiating period coming to an end, U.S. President Donald Trump says he will move forward with a 25 per cent tariff on most Canadian imports next week.
