Kingston celebrates Black History/Futures Month

Community events and reflections throughout February

Kingston is celebrating Black History/Futures Month this February, a time to reflect on the experiences and achievements of Black Canadians while envisioning a brighter future for the community.

Vanessa Mensah, Manager of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, says the month highlights the legacy of Black Canadians and honors both past and future leaders. "We celebrate their enduring impact and commit to supporting future generations," she explains.

Several local events are planned, with the Queen’s University Equity Office creating a shared calendar for community-led activities. On February 21, Kingston Grand Theatre will host Step Afrika!, blending traditional African and contemporary dance styles into a powerful performance.

To mark the occasion, City Hall and Springer Market Square will shine in red, green, and yellow lights on February 1 and 28, and the Pan-African flag will fly all month long. For more details on events, check the Queen’s University calendar.
