Kingston council drops support for VIA Rail project after years of stalled progress

The motion passed unanimously

Kingston council officially withdrew its support for VIA Rail's high frequency rail project they proposed in 2017 which would've seen the city become a regional hub.

The project never came to pass and in February VIA Rail announced the high speed rail line with a dedicated track that currently bypasses Kingston.

Mayor Brian Paterson was frustrated from what he sees as broken promises.

As a whole, taking the train has become something of a headache says Councillor Don Amos.

The motion passed unanimously, and it'll be sent to VIA Rail executives, government officials and business stakeholders
