Kingston ferry service faces review after meeting with MTO officials

Talks focused on inspections, repairs, and improving communication

On December 11, MPP for Kingston & the Islands, Ted Hsu, met with officials from the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to discuss the Wolfe Island ferry service after an incident with the new ferry that saw it run aground.

The meeting addressed the ongoing inspections of the Wolfe Islander 4, including whether repairs are needed and if the vessel will go to drydock.

MTO confirmed it is open to enhancing communication with the public by utilizing more channels, such as Twitter, to provide updates about the service. They also plan to review the protocols for informing passengers when delays occur.

Additionally, the Canadian Coast Guard will assess whether the navigation buoys, maps, and the lake’s topography are accurately aligned near the area where the Wolfe Islander 4 ran aground.

Hsu assured residents that he would continue to provide updates as more information becomes available, stressing the importance of clear communication and safe ferry operations.
