Kingston fights back: City opposes U.S. tariffs

Push made for shop-local campaign

Kingston City council formally opposed the proposed tarrifs from the United States on Canadian goods and tasked staff with developing a tourism and shopping local campaign.

It's tense times on the national political front, but the messaging at council was controlling what they can on the municipal front.

Councillor and business owner Conny Glenn said this is important messaging.

Spending your money next door is something you should always do regardless of the politicial climate, says Councillor Vincent Cinnani.

Staff developed a very successful "Love Kingston," campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic and council are hoping for similar result.

They're also encouraging both the provincial and federal governments to remove interprovincial trade barriers as soon as possible.
