Kingston food bank sets record-breaking demand

Need skyrockets across Ontario

Demand for food banks is reaching new highs in Ontario, and Kingston’s Partners in Mission Food Bank is feeling the pressure.

By November, the organization served 8,783 people in Kingston and Loyalist Township, including 2,729 children. A record 19,071 food hampers were distributed, marking 2024 as the fourth consecutive year of increasing demand.

The food bank is preparing to move to a larger location at 4 Harvey Street in March 2025 to better meet the growing need. Renovations are underway to create a space that improves the client experience.

Smaller donations are declining as more middle-class families struggle and turn to food banks. Large donors are stepping up to fill the gap, but challenges remain.

Feed Ontario’s 2024 Hunger Report revealed more than 1 million people accessed food banks this year—a 25 per cent increase over 2023. As demand grows, the Kingston community’s ongoing support is vital.
