Kingston Police and the Ministry of Transportation conducted a major inspection blitz in recent weeks. They found that nearly half of commercial vehicles checked were not roadworthy.
On June 26, officers inspected 21 trucks and trailers at two locations in Kingston. These inspections range from thorough checks of the entire vehicle to walk-around evaluations with the driver.
Police reported that nine out of the 21 vehicles inspected, or 43%, were taken out of service. They were deemed unsafe due to significant defects or the lack of necessary documentation.
In addition to grounding the unsafe vehicles, the Ministry of Transportation took further action by removing two license plates. The high failure rate highlights ongoing safety concerns in the commercial vehicle sector and underscores the importance of regular, rigorous inspections.
