Kingston has been named one of the cheapest places to live in Canada, according to online mortgage site Nesto.
The city ranked in the top 10 for rental affordability, with an average monthly rent of $1,907 compared to a household income of $89,158.
The list, based on data from the Globe and Mail’s most liveable cities ranking and Rentals.ca’s national rent report, highlights cities where rent is most affordable relative to income.
Kingston joins major urban centres like Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Quebec City on the list.
The report challenges the idea that affordable rent is only found in small towns, saying that while Kingston offers lower-than-average rental costs, it also boasts amenities found in larger cities.
