Man allegedly pulled a knife on another fisherman

Port Hope police have arrested and charged a 57-year-old Kingston man following an altercation with a fellow fisherman near the Ganaraska River on September 7, 2024.

Police were called to Mill Street South after the victim asked to fish beside the accused, leading to a verbal dispute. The accused allegedly pulled out a 12-inch fillet knife, threatening the victim and giving them 10 seconds to leave.

Fearing for their safety, the victim contacted police. Officers arrived at the scene, and the accused was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes.

The accused has since been released on an undertaking, and police continue to investigate. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

This incident highlights the importance of staying calm during conflicts to avoid escalation.
