Kingston murder case moves forward after deadly altercation in July

Process just getting started

The man accused of second-degree murder in a fatal July altercation on Leroy Grant Drive in Kingston, Kyle Pyke, appeared in court on Friday, November 29. Justice of the Peace Jack Chiang presided over the bail hearing.

Pyke, who is in custody at Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay, appeared via video and was represented by lawyer Dayna Ackland of Cremer Barristers in Toronto. Ackland requested that the case proceed to a judicial pre-trial in December. That request was granted. The pre-trial takes place mid-month.

Kingston Police arrested Pyke nearly three weeks after the July 26 incident, where a 33-year-old man suffered fatal injuries. Police and paramedics responded to reports of a serious altercation near the old traffic circle on Leroy Grant Drive. The injured man was transported to Kingston General Hospital but later died.

The case has drawn significant attention as police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the deadly encounter.
