Project Memphis coming for car thieves
Kingston Police have teamed up with Équité Association to launch Project Memphis, a new initiative aimed at combating auto theft in the city.
The partnership focuses on enhancing auto theft training, investigations, and community outreach. Auto thefts impact Kingston residents significantly, affecting their daily routines and transportation needs.
Équité will contribute by providing expert training, data analysis, and public education. They emphasize a layered approach to vehicle protection, including locking doors, installing anti-theft devices, and using tracking systems.
Bryan Gast from Équité highlights the urgency, noting that auto theft cost over $1.2 billion in Canada last year. Kingston Police Chief Scott Fraser reports 158 vehicles stolen this year, underscoring the need for this collaborative effort to boost community safety.
