Kingston Police Chief Scott Fraser commended Queen’s University students for their positive behaviour during move-in weekend and orientation. Fraser noted that it cost half as much to police the event this year compared to last year, a sign of improved crowd management.
Fraser highlighted a shift in attitude at unsanctioned gatherings, with upper-year students stepping up to educate first-year students about local enforcement rules. This peer-to-peer guidance has helped reduce issues during the events.
The Police Liaison Team also played a key role, continuing to work closely with Queen’s University and students in the University District. Fraser emphasized that while students are eager to have fun, the police's main priority is ensuring everyone’s safety at large gatherings.
