Kingston Police officer under investigation

Not connected to deputy chief’s suspension

An investigation into a Kingston Police officer is ongoing but unrelated to the recent suspension of Deputy Chief Matt Funnell.

The Whig-Standard reports the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed this week that the two matters are separate.

The investigation, which began in January 2024, was sparked by an anonymous third-party complaint.

While the OPP has not disclosed details about the allegations, they confirmed no charges have been laid.

Kingston Police Const. Anthony Colangeli reassured the public that the investigation is unrelated to Funnell’s suspension.

The officer under investigation has not been identified and is not on suspension.

Kingston Police have declined to comment further, referring inquiries to the OPP.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch handling the case.

The Ministry of the Attorney General has stated they cannot comment on ongoing investigations.
