Kingston police struggle with suspect leads to SIU investigation

Incident started with domestic dispute investigation

A domestic dispute in Kingston’s west end on Family Day has led to an investigation by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

Kingston Police were called to Chelsea Road and Henderson Boulevard around noon on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, after a resident reported a family member had taken her vehicle without consent. When officers arrived, they found a 36-year-old man and attempted to arrest him. A struggle followed, but police managed to handcuff the man and take him into custody.

He was then taken to the hospital for assessment, though the SIU has not disclosed the nature of his injuries or his condition.

The SIU, an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police-related injuries, deaths, firearm discharges, or sexual assault allegations, has assigned three investigators to the case.

The investigation could take months or longer to complete. More details are expected as the SIU releases further information.
