Kingston Police warn seniors after distraction thefts at local plazas

Anyone with tips, call police

Kingston Police are investigating two recent distraction thefts targeting seniors in parking lots.

On November 23, a theft occurred outside a restaurant at Frontenac Mall, and on December 5, another incident took place at the Days Road and Bath Road Plaza. In both cases, elderly women were approached by suspects in a dark sedan asking for directions to the hospital.

The suspects, described as a middle-aged man, two adult women, and two children with light brown skin, placed fake jewelry on the victims as a “thank you” while stealing their real, expensive jewelry. The children distracted victims by urging them to keep the fake jewelry.

Police warn the public to be cautious as similar thefts have happened across southern Ontario.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Blair Watt at bwatt@kingstonpolice.ca or anonymously call Kingston Police at 613-549-4660 ext. 0.
