Program offers major boost for those who need it most
The City of Kingston is reminding residents to check if they qualify for the Municipal Fee Assistance Program (MFAP).
The income-based program gives residents access to city services for free or at lower costs, including discounted transit passes, recreation programs, shows, health care benefits, marriage licences, and pet services.
In February 2024, the City finished a review of MFAP to remove application barriers for low-income individuals as part of Kingston’s Strategic Plan.
MFAP recently partnered with Lionhearts, offering recipients discounts at Fresh Food Market Pop-ups.
Residents can apply online, by email, or in person at Housing and Social Services, 362 Montreal St., during office hours. Applications take 10-15 minutes and are open year-round. Eligibility is based on household income.
Started in 2009, MFAP has grown to be Canada’s most comprehensive municipal discount program, offering a wide range of services through one application process.
