KSOS to continue serving the community through innovative education
The Kingston School of Art (KSOA) will close its Princess Street location at the end of April after 31 years of operation. The decision comes due to funding cuts, a challenging economy, and service duplication in the Kingston area. However, the school will continue to operate by evolving its approach to art education.
KSOA plans to become a mobile art school, bringing art classes to underused spaces around the city. The new model will focus on making art more accessible and flexible for diverse communities. The organization is also exploring collaborations with local art partners, including the Tett Centre and Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre.
While the Princess Street location will close, KSOA remains committed to serving the community through innovative education. The school, which began in 1994, will celebrate its 30th anniversary later this year, having paused the event last year due to financial concerns.
